What Do Admissions Officers Expect from Students During PGDM Admissions

Colleges receive thousands of applications for PGDM admissions every year. A large number of students have to face rejection. A very few of them get admission in a reputed college, many others need to settle for 2-tier and 3-tier management institutes. The students are expected to have some qualities in order to be eligible to get admission in a PGDM College. Let’s understand the factors taken into consideration.

Good test scores

This is the most important criteria. Students are eliminated based on their test scores. There are number of entrance tests conducted for admissions. Those students who get good scores in these tests are given priority over the others. Some of the colleges conduct their own entrance test for the applicants. It is utmost important to clear these exams with good scores.

Consistent academic performance

Students are expected to have more than average grades in 10th, 12th and graduation to enroll in a PGDM program. Most of the colleges require more than 50% marks. Students with poor academic performance are not considered eligible for placement.

Leadership qualities

Some of the elite institutions want to make sure they are investing in a candidate who will go out and make a difference, and you will have to demonstrate leadership potential either in your academic life or your work experience or elsewhere.

Confidence

A number of applicants are skilled and possess above average intelligence, however, they don’t have the confidence required to succeed. To get admission in a PGDM course, confidence is a key factor. A student is expected to have a positive go-getter attitude.

Solid communication skills

After your aptitude skills are tested, communication skills is another parameter to judge a student. More than any other degree in the world, a management student is expected to be good at communication. PGDM colleges conduct group discussions, essay writing, personal interviews, etc. to test the communication skills of the applicants. If communication skills are not up to the mark then the application is definitely rejected.

Involvement in extra-curricular activities

A PGDM program includes many extra-curricular actives along with classroom training for the holistic development of the budding leaders. Students who have been actively involved in such activities are chosen. It not only means simple hobbies like hiking or playing the violin, but consistent engagement in green initiatives, social work or sports, definitely counts.

Domain knowledge

Students are expected to have some knowledge of the management subjects. Hence, it is advisable that students have at least one management subject at graduation level. Some amount of domain knowledge is also essential for PGDM admissions.

Work experience

Many students get into a PGDM program as soon as they get a graduate degree, but some work experience can be an added advantage. Not all the colleges in India expect students to have any prior work experience; however, it adds some weightage to the applicant’s profile.

If you are appearing for the PGDM admissions this year, take care of these points to improve your chances of getting selected by your dream college.
