i6 Speaker Series Committee
As a part of the i6 committee, students invite corporate personnel to the institute for an informative session every Saturday. The students get to interact with these distinguished individuals, learn from their experience, and gain new perspective about the business industry.
We were honored and privileged to welcome Veteran Air Marshal Arun Purushottam Garud (Param Vishita Seva Medal) on 31st of October 2022 for i6 “Industry Interactive Session” to enlighten the students on Leadership: Vision to reality.
This session was also grazed with Associate Director of iFEEL, Dr.Naresh Warrier sir and Veteran Wing Commander Dr. Sudhir Salunke Sir, Dean iFEEL and faculty member Jagadeesh Padaki sir, Dipti Shahane ma’am, Sameer Patel sir and Adesh Doifode sir who helped us make this session run without a hitch.
Garud sir, highlighted on parallels between Armed forces and corporate leadership, for which he discussed effective communication, stress management and time management. He inspired us by delivering his distinctive experience from Indian Air Force. He stressed the 10% rule, meaning “listen to 10%, absorb 10% of that and implement a further 10% of it in your life”.
To motivate students to be a good leaders and how to manage stress, he quoted:
“Be an integral part of the organisation”; “Identify organisational goals as your goals”; “Don’t run after targets, care for the people in the organisation”; “money can motivate you for a certain time, but after that, money loses its importance”.
He appealed to the audience to refer few books such as Failure – by Abraham Lincoln, Wheels, Widow, Final Diagnosis, etc. and also, and he also urged students to follow the ABCRL rule, i.e., (Accuracy, Brevity, Clarity, Relevance and Logic).
Last but not least, he concluded the session with the following:
- “Fortunate people are those who get what they want.”
- “Blessed people are those who like what they get.”
- “A good leader nurtures the weakest in the group.”
He undoubtedly provided a new viewpoint on leadership and how one learns to handle stress while working in a team by simply communicating. Overall, the session was very informative and enlightening. I hope to continue attending such sessions in the future course.
